April 9, 2012
It has begun! The baseball season that is. My grandfather's favorite sport is back in session. I find it interesting to look at where baseball left off last season like for instance, the Red Sox melting down in September to choke away the wild card.
This year they've picked up right where they left off getting swept by the Detroit Tigers to start the new season. Look I admit I am a Yankees fan but it's so early in the season that I don't really care about wins and losses, it's the way Boston lost that last game. The Red Sox were actually winning by three and manned up big time to choke away the three run lead in seven pitches! Way to snatch defeat from the hands of victory Boston.
Another team full of problems is the Miami Marlins. Marlins pitcher Mark Buehrle slices his thumb opening a jar of mayonnaise.
"I came in to make a sandwich and they said, 'You know we have people who can make sandwiches for you.' I said, I'm a grown man, I can make my own sandwich. It was just a complete freak thing."
"The ball sat right there, a couple of times I would move my thumb forward just thinking I don't want to rip it or hurt it even worse. Once I realized I'm all over the place, walking guys and hitting guys I said, screw it. I got to deal with it."
How do you have the talent to strikeout major leaguers but can't make a sandwich without injuring yourself? You know I shouldn't be shocked anymore, I mean we're only in April so there's plenty of time for more athletes to jack themselves up.
I like when he says, "I am a grown man I can make my own sandwich." Apparently not dude. Then he says, " it was just a complete freak thing." What was Mark? Making a sandwich? Or getting sliced up by Miracle Whip.
Then you have Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen telling TIME magazine that he loves Castro and respects him for staying in power so long.
"I will apologize if I hurt somebody's feelings, or I hurt somebody's thought. I want them to know I'm against everything 100%. I repeat again, the way this man has been treating people for the last 60 years."
I love Ozzie, but what the hell is he talking about? If you are against everything 100% then why did you tell TIME magazine that you love Fidel Castro? If you're against everything dude does then why do you respect such a tyrant for staying in power so long?
Do you love him and respect him or are you against him 100%? Well Ozzie didn't hurt my feelings but he certainly hurt my thought since I now have a headache trying to figure this out.
The Marlins released a statement on Guillen's thoughts:
"There is nothing to respect about Fidel Castro. He is a brutal dictator who has caused unthinkable pain for more than 50 years. We live in a community filled with victims of this dictatorship, and the people in Cuba continue to suffer today."
Lets see opening day in baseball was April 5th and today's April 9th...yup we are right on schedule. Baseball players have been taken out or injured by ice packs, tanning beds, irons, watermelons, and now a jar of mayo. It would be hilarious if it weren't so sad.
