I still have a bad taste in my mouth about the UFC. I am not mad at Ultimate Fighting the sport or organization, no I'm still upset that the last fight I watched was at this penthouse party my ex girlfriend dragged me to where some jerk was charging an entry fee. I should've wrote to Dana White about it, for some reason I don't think penthouse dude had a license to charge for something he doesn't own.
Recently, Dana White the president of the UFC, did a question and answer session with Fox Sports. One of the key points he made was the fact that Brock Lesnar is coming back. Lesnar's comeback bout will be on December 30th vs Alistair Overeen. This bout is currently schedule in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Speaking of Dana White, dude is making some major moves to promote his sport. No one, in my opinion, has done more for the sport of mixed martial arts than Dana White. In case you didn't know, dude is going network!
UFC is coming to free television. Cain Velesquez will take on Junior dos Santos on November 12, 2011 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. This will be the first UFC fight on FOX. White said that the 'Ultimate Fighter' will air two seasons per year on FX, part of a huge deal the UFC signed with FOX.
An admitted fan of Vince McMahon, White asked the WWE Chairman for advice while working on a TV deal with FOX. White says that McMahon, "Single handedly created pay-per-view. Of the top pay-per-views of all time based on sales, Vince and the WWE own 70 out of 100."
White calls McMahon an "animal" for his long hours and dedication to the WWE. White also says that McMahon, "has a wealth of knowledge on television, international television, licensing deals, and venues."
The UFC has certainly won me over. Sure I've heard about it but I never took the time to actually sit down and watch an event until that UFC party I attended. My little brother loves it and he watches it on Spike TV and of course the pay-per-views. I think it's a little ironic that my first UFC experience started with some jerk hitting us up for money, but it was also one of the most classic battles I have ever witnessed.
Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen was the main event and Silva took a beating for four and a half of the five round championship fight before miraculously submitting Sonnen. Yeah, that was my first fight, how the hell could you not be hooked after that?
I guess I'm not the only one hooked as recently the UFC has surpassed the WWE and boxing in pay-per-view sales. Dana White says he gives 100% credit to the product of the UFC. White says, "For years, boxing didn't care about most of the undercard fights. We put on a great show throughtout the event."
Now millions of people who've never ordered a UFC pay-per-view or have seen the programming on Spike TV or have even heard of mixed martial arts, are going to get a front row seat on network tv. I know Dana White went to Vince McMahon for some advice and I'd like to offer some of my own and that is, program your schedule carefully because you have a great product but you don't want any part of the NFL. Schedule accordingly dude, I'll be watching.
