San Francisco 49ers to host top-30 visit with one of the fastest players in the 2024 NFL Draft
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers play a fast and physical brand of defensive football.

So it stands to reason that they should have interest in Mississippi State cornerback Decamerion Richardson.

San Francisco, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, will host a top-30 visit with Richardson this week.

Richardson is one of the fastest players in the 2024 draft, and proved as much at the Combine, clocking a 40-yard dash time of 4.34 seconds that was tied for the sixth-fastest time. His 10-yard split of 1.48 seconds was the second-fastest at the Combine.

At over 6ft 2in and with arm length in the 95th percentile, Richardson brings an intriguing combination of size and speed. He had seven pass breakups in his final season with the Bulldogs.

Richardson was impressive in both man and zone coverage in 2023 and allowed 9.2 yards per reception, tied for 11th among the 156 FBS corners in the 2024 draft with at least 200 coverage snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

A lack of on-ball production figures to be a concern given Richardson did not have an interception in college.

However, with the 49ers having added experienced backups Isaac Yiadom and Rock Ya-Sin to an excellent starting pair in Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir, they are in a position where they can afford to bet on a player at that spot with excellent traits but limited production.
