Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic and Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz share a great bond, and it was on display when the two tennis stars crossed paths at the 2024 Laureus World Sports Awards.

As Djokovic and Alcaraz met each other, they shared pleasantries. Not only that, Djokovic also fixed Alcaraz’s tuxedo.

The two players also joked around for a while before they walked their own paths. As Alcaraz was being interviewed, Djokovic came and greeted the youngster. The two players hugged each other, and then Djokovic also seemed to compliment the youngster on his tuxedo.

Alcaraz also seemed to compliment the Serbian. The presenter also got involved and the three joked around for a brief while before Djokovic took a leave. The video of this beautiful interaction was shared on the award’s social media page.

Novak Djokovic wins Sportsman of the Year award

Novak Djokovic was present at the Laureus World Sports Awards for a reason. The 36-year-old was named the Sportsman of the Year for his grand success in 2023. Djokovic almost completed a Golden Slam as the Serbian ace won three of the four Grand Slam titles in 2023.

Djokovic won majors at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and the US Open, missing out only at Wimbledon, where he fell to Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set final. He ended the year by winning a record seventh ATP Finals title and by claiming Year-End No. 1 for a record eighth time.

This was Djokovic’s fifth Sportsman of the Year at the Leaureus World Sports Awards. He previously won in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2019. The Serbian was over the moon after getting the prestigious award.

I am incredibly honored to have won my fifth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award. I think back to [season] 2012, when I won it for the first time as a 24-year-old. I am very proud to be here 12 years later, reflecting on a year that brought me and my fans a lot of excitement and success. Novak Djokovic said. (H/T: ATP Tour)

Contrary to the 2023 season where Djokovic achieved enormous success, the 2024 season has been nothing short of disappointing for the Serbian ace. He is yet to win a title this season. It will be interesting to see if this award will instill more confidence in the 24-time Grand Slam champion and if he wins the title in Madrid.
